Here is an extraordinary fact about you… You have a God-given gift.

You have a natural talent and ability that will steer you toward the right path in life. Moreover, this innate gift is the foundational centrepiece of your growth and self-development, emboldening you to make progress, conquer challenges, and achieve success.

It’s a lifelong process that will lead you to reach your full potential.

However, you may need clarification about what your gift is. Or you may have a sense of the course you should be on but feel you want some reassurance.

Either way, I’ve got you covered.

In this article, I will explain step-by-step how to find and develop your God-given gift (or gifts) so you can accomplish your dreams, contribute to society in a meaningful way, and become the person you’re supposed to be.

But first, it’s essential to be aware of a sinister turn our society is taking…

An Alarming Insight

Since the mid-2000s, our world has been on a downward trajectory regarding people’s desire to find their unique gifts.

Fewer people have the motivation to uncover and develop their talents.

This is a shame because, according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the impulse to become all you can be is the pinnacle of self-actualization. And this will be challenging to achieve if we aren’t consciously developing our innate gifts, talents, and abilities.

This is a lifelong learning process.

And it begins when you realize you have important skills to give to the world. Part of your development involves acknowledging this simple fact.

But at this point, you may be wondering…

What is Your God-Given Gift?

Comedian, TV host, and business mogul Steve Harvey said it best…

He said, “Your gift is the thing you do the absolute best with the least amount of effort.” I couldn’t agree more. You can take a page from Mr. Harvey’s book by asking yourself: What are your natural strengths and abilities? Take stock of your talents; they are the tools that will contribute to your self-improvement and help you construct a meaningful life.

Now, of course, this will be challenging.

So, you may be curious about why you should go through this process.

The Benefits of Uncovering Your Gift

If you’re reading, you already understand the value of finding and living out your God-given gift. However, if you need more incentive, here are 3 invaluable benefits that can result from honouring your natural talents and abilities.

1. Contributes to Your Personal Development

Your gift contributes to your self-improvement.

Whether your personal development plan includes an early retirement, mastering a skill, or simply growing past your current comfort zone, uncovering your gift can help you accomplish all of that in surprising ways. How? The following Bible phrase from Proverbs 18:16 can explain that…

“Your gift will make room for you.”

When you become excellent at what you’ve been called to do, you’ll find yourself in unique situations as people will be drawn to the quality of your performance. You’ll gain experience, network with people, and learn valuable lessons that will all contribute to your growth and self-improvement.

2. Become Self-Actualized

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the pinnacle of the human experience is to become self-actualized. This is the apex of our psychological development. Once the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing have been met, this more profound need will begin to surface.

And honoring your God-given gift is how you tap into this aspect of your personal development.

Many people suffer from depression, lack of self-esteem, mental illness, etc., because they aren’t satisfying this fundamental human requirement. However, developing the skills associated with your gift helps to nullify and offset these neurotic disorders.

Why? Because your gift gives you purpose and meaning. It puts you on the path of growth and success to achieve self-improvement and become the best version of yourself.

3. Reach Your Full Potential

I’m going to make a bold but accurate statement…

No one can ever achieve self-improvement and reach their full potential doing something they hate. You’re capable of achieving so much; however, that potential can only be realized when you are engaged in work that is meaningful to you.

You can reach your full potential both in your professional and personal life by honoring your God-given gifts. How does this work? It’s simple…

As you develop your gifts, life becomes exciting. You get up every day enthusiastic about the direction you’re taking your life in. As a result, you feel compelled to start raising the standard in other areas of your life as well.

How You Can Identify Your Gift (Simple 3-Step System)

You have a unique set of natural talents that—if uncovered and developed—can contribute to your personal growth, career development, and, ultimately, your future as a whole. And the best part?

You don’t need some comprehensive “personal development plan” to start.

The key to reaching your full potential is understanding your brain’s natural “hard-wiring.”

In short, you have to reflect on your innate gifts…

This process is essential to develop a deeper understanding of your personality, gain emotional intelligence, and grow your self-esteem.

But how do you act on these ideas? Luckily, there are only three simple steps to consider:

1. Revisit Your Past Interests

One of the challenges many people have with identifying their gift is their lack of interests and passions.

The world can beat these things out of us as we enter adulthood. However, that doesn’t mean all is lost. And I’ll prove it… The first step in finding your gift is to revisit your past. Here’s the deal… Your younger years can provide context regarding your natural aptitudes.

Why? Because your mind was pure when you were young. It wasn’t bogged down by…

  • Mental blocks
  • Limiting beliefs
  • Fears and self-doubt
  • Societal conditioning
  • Other people’s opinions, etc.

Therefore, your past is a doorway that can unlock more clarity in this area.

So ask yourself: What sparked your interest as a child? What activities or subjects captivated your focus or stirred your feelings? You must return to these things if you want to get on the right path.

For example, did you have a love of words? Were you obsessed with physical fitness? Were you a little salesperson selling your candy bars to your peers at school? Etc.

Your childhood interests can provide invaluable feedback regarding your natural talents.

2. Explore Your Current Interests

Pay attention to your current interests and curiosities.

Why? Because they’ve been planted in your consciousness for a reason. If you don’t think so, ask yourself why you’re interested in certain things or activities over others. It’s because those interests are connected to some deep part of your constitution. You have to honour that.

A big problem many of us have is we fall prey to the opinions of others.

Some people are so focused on what others think they should do that they negate their own inner voice—bad move. Practice exploring your natural inclinations. Stop worrying about what friends, family, co-workers, and our culture say you should do.

Instead, direct your energy toward what matters to you. You should consider your…

  • Skills
  • Hobbies
  • Interests
  • Passions
  • Temperament, etc.

This is essential. The benefit of going through this process will be invaluable to your self-development, knowledge accumulation, and future. As a result, it’s worth it to be proactive in this area to gain clarity and self-awareness.

3. Follow Your Intuition

This step may seem abstract; however, it’s actually more practical than it appears.

Let me explain…

Once you cover the first two tips listed above, your intuition plays a vital role in helping you determine your next step. Here’s the deal: You’ll undoubtedly feel a “pull” toward one (maybe two) of your aspirations more than the others. That is your intuition tugging at you.

Respect it; follow it.

You may object, “What if it’s the wrong choice?!”

Don’t let logic get in your way here; certain things in life can’t be explained with raw reason. And your intuition is one of them. It’s your internal guidance system that is directing you toward the right path—trust it.

If you have two interests that you’re having trouble choosing between, you can uniquely combine them.

That’s what I’ve done.

As a public speaker, I also incorporate freestyle rap performances into many of my presentations to engage and entertain audiences while delivering a meaningful message. So, it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

You can use your skills and abilities in a distinct way that makes you stand out from anybody else who does what you do.
