How do you find breakthroughs? How do you find the ideas that are going to move you forward in your life? All too often, we get stuck in the same rut. And like a hamster on a wheel, we are continually running but getting nowhere. Luckily, I think I have something that can help. I want to share with you a little tip on how I’ve written 4 books, produced 6 theatre shows, and have been able to run 3 businesses, all while balancing being a mom and wife.
And the way I’ve done that is by…
Chiseling Away
I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying, “The way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.” How true. Nothing big or worthwhile is ever accomplished in a single day, week, and in many cases, year. To reach our biggest goals, it often takes years of slowly chipping away at them, a little bit at a time, every single day.
It’s not sexy, it’s not glamorous; it’s not anything you’d post on social media, etc. However, it is the process that’s required to make real progress toward your dreams. And that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t do a lot—it was just a little bit each and every day.
Overcome the Humps
In theory, chiseling away at your goals a little bit each day is a practical piece of advice. However, in practice, it may be more difficult than you originally expected. So here’s how I get through those humps of not being able to have that creative breakthrough: Unthink Time.
Unthink time is in the moments when I allow myself to unplug. In short, it is the…
- Times when I’m not working on those projects
- Times when I go for a nice, long walk
- Times when I’m not actively thinking about my goals
That’s when the ideas will come! So yes, chisel away a little bit each day. But don’t forget, you also need to ensure you have a little bit of Unthink Time as well. And this will help you get to that breakthrough.
