One of the most challenging things for us to do is let go. This is especially true if we’ve been wronged. However, the best and most healthy act that will allow you to move forward in your life is to let go and forgive. I’ve struggled with this just like I’ve struggled with many other things (which I’ll get to shortly). I recently did a workshop that emphasized the importance of this concept.

But before we get to that, I first want to touch on a few other important concepts that are critical if we want to let go of past hurt and trauma and move on with our lives. Keep reading to learn more.

The Importance of Pushing Ourselves

I used to be able to do a 200-lb squat. It was pre-COVID, and I was in my early 60s. That taught me the power (and necessity) of continually pushing myself. That might not be for everybody—I know I can’t do it anymore. However, pushing ourselves, whether physically or in some other capacity, creates possibility in our minds.

It makes us think: If I can do that, what else am I capable of? This leads us to continually move forward in life and grow in a positive direction.

Overcoming Fear of Social Media

As I grow as a person and a coach, I’m constantly learning new things while overcoming old challenges. One of the challenges has been my fear of social media. As a result, I’ve been slowly stepping out and doing more things on social media. Also (to help with this process), I’m facilitating one of Abe’s courses—Letting Go and Moving Forward.

These platforms feel so intimidating to me because social media wasn’t around when I was growing up (we didn’t even have computers in my day!). So, everything is all new to me. As a result, there’s been a huge resistance to social media. And I think it’s been a fear of judgement. But I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter what I do; people will still judge me.

However, if I want to grow, I’ve gotta stretch. And that’s why I’ve created a business page on Facebook, and I even put a few posts up on Instagram! The interesting thing? The world hasn’t imploded on me! All the feedback has been pretty positive so far.

Learning the Power of Forgiveness

One of my core messages as a coach (and as an individual, for that matter) is the power of forgiveness. We’re so often slow or even reluctant to forgive people because we feel like we’re letting the other person “off the hook.” We feel like when we forgive, we’re letting the other person “get away with it.” But the truth is that forgiveness is about us and not the person who hurt us.

The longer we hold onto the pain that someone else caused us, the more we’re worsening that pain. Letting go is hard. I get it. Holding onto old pain often becomes a part of our comfort zone. I’ve said this before: Sometimes, there’s comfort in the discomfort of the comfort zone because it’s known, it’s familiar. And when you step out into the unfamiliar, that’s when it gets hard.

Final Thoughts

Letting go is not always easy; however, it’s essential if we want to be free in our lives and have peace. This idea is simple in theory but can prove a little more challenging in practice. But don’t let that stop you. Forgiving others can be one of the most empowering things you can ever do. As a result, it’s worth it; you’re worth it.
