In previous articles, I’ve talked about my personal story with trauma, what I’ve learned from it, and how I’ve used it to help others. In this article, I want to discuss how to heal from it. None of this is easy; it takes time and effort. However, healing from trauma is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself. So, let’s explore how to go about that process. Keep reading to learn more.

Trauma-Informed Flourishing Coaching Model (TIFCOM)

Now, I’m not a psychologist or a counselor. But when I approached Abe with this idea, I was well aware that we can only move into life as far as we have healed ourselves from past trauma. So, my hope and vision was to have some healed coaches because we all have something to heal. The main philosophy of my practice is that I don’t ask clients to do anything I haven’t done myself. I did the work; as a result, I grew and expanded.

So much of TIFCOM is saying to coaches and healers, “I can lead because I’ve been down that road; I’ve experienced (and overcome) what you’re going through right now.” I remember when I first started going to marriage counseling for my marriage, and our counselor was a 22-year-old girl. She was younger than I was! And I thought, “How can you speak about or counsel on marriage when you don’t have that experience?”

So, that has become one of my philosophies. When I say to my clients, “I know where you’ve been,” it creates rapport and relatability. I’m very vulnerable, and I speak to my clients at the beginning (and with consent) about how much of my story they’d like to know. And I don’t do it for any other reason than to lead them out of their trauma the same way that I did it.

What the Healing Journey Looks Like

My healing journey was incredible. When we wrapped up the TIFCOM class, people actually evolved. They changed. What I learned is that when we raise our bar, it can never be lowered again. We can’t un-know what we know or un-hear what we’ve heard. And it actually becomes contagious; you can’t stop healing.

Once you start the journey, it’s not a door that will close. We have something in our being: love, life, purpose. Once we open that up and start doing the healing and trauma work, it begins to take on a life of its own. You can’t stop it at that point; healing is contagious.

Final Thoughts

Healing from trauma is a process. It takes time, self-reflection, and a supportive community to move past the emotional scars in our lives. However, once you’ve done the healing, you can then use the knowledge and wisdom you’ve gained as a tool to serve your coaching clients better. For this reason, we at Flourishing Certified Coach have created a proven, step-by-step program that can help.

The TIFCOM (or Trauma-Informed Flourishing Coaching Model) program is designed to help you uncover the deep-seated traumas and limited beliefs that hold clients back and release them so they can move forward. So, if you’re ready to help your clients thrive by overcoming their past traumas, be sure to register for a LIVE information session.

About the Author

My story begins with being born to a 17-year-old child who was sent away from her home on announcement of my conception with my 23-year-old father. Surviving her attempt of aborting me, my mother’s coping mechanism became addiction, never recovering from the abandonment (and addictions) of both her father and mine.

I was ‘unwanted’ from conception and have spent all of my adult life recovering from that very initial trauma.

I am not a victim of that beginning, but the realities of that tough start leave me well versed in poverty, neglect, abuse (mental, physical, spiritual, and sexual) and the generational inheritance of her trauma.

My deep aspiration in this lifetime founded by my very personal healing journey lead me to my counseling and coaching education and allows me the privilege to advocate, educate and inspire changes in the way people parent today.

As the once child and now parent of 3 adult children, I have decades of wisdom from the good, bad and ugly times that I want to share with you.

I come to walk with you, beside you, having trial-and errored many, many ways of ‘being’.

I have no judgements towards the vast mistakes I have made along my way, I was simply surviving .

My ‘apparent’ failures on my journey including: leaving home at 17 (ironically the same age as my mother) to, most recently, a divorce from a 30-year marriage. These are simply the live, real-time human experiences that were my teachers, and the lessons learned were immense.

Having endured relentlessly, I am passionate about paying forward the insights I have gained to ensure something different for you and your relationships and families.

I am honest and vulnerable, I am tough but loving. I bring passion to my real-life lessons and hopefully inspire a new way of being in your life.

What a pleasure to meet you smile
Sandra
